US Marshals Could Be Selling Bitcoin Seized from Silk Road

According to finance lawyer Scott Johnsson, the US Marshals Service (USMS) is likely in the process of offloading Bitcoin acquired from Silk Road, a well-known marketplace.

Johnsson’s observations are based on a partnership agreement signed by USMS and Coinbase in June, which he believes signifies that once the cryptocurrency reaches Coinbase Prime, it’s a clear indication that the USMS has either sold or is about to sell the assets.

This is in line with the terms of the agreement, which require USMS assets to be kept separately.

Johnsson added that the USMS has been transferring Bitcoin to a custodial address as per the agreement’s guidelines.

Johnsson also mentioned that the confirmation of these transactions will likely come with the Department of Justice’s Asset Forfeiture Program report for the fiscal year 2024, expected to be released in January.
