Matter Labs Reduces Workforce by 16%

Matter Labs, the main developer behind the Ethereum layer-2 protocol ZKsync, has announced a restructuring that includes laying off 16% of its employees.

CEO Alex Gluchowski explained that this decision was made in order to adapt to the changing needs of developers building on the system.

In a post on X, Gluchowski stated that after a thorough organizational planning exercise, it became evident that the current talent and roles within Matter Labs do not align with the company’s current needs.

The layoffs may affect more than 30 people, as Matter Labs currently has around 200 employees according to its LinkedIn profile.

The company’s flagship product, ZKsync, is facing competition in the crowded field of Ethereum layer-2 networks.
