Kamala Harris to Support Crypto Sector
Kamala Harris has publicly addressed her US presidential campaign for the first time, highlighting her plans to promote innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital assets.
Speaking at fundraiser in Manhattan on September 22, Harris stated, “We will encourage technologies like AI and digital assets while also ensuring protection for consumers and investors.” This is the first time Harris has directly mentioned cryptocurrency during her campaign.
Her comments come amidst speculation on whether she will adopt a different stance on crypto compared to President Joe Biden, who has been viewed as less supportive of the industry.
Harris emphasized her focus on creating a secure business environment with well-defined regulations, investing in technologies like semiconductors and clean energy, and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
While some in the crypto community welcomed Harris’ statements, others are hoping for more specific policies. Coinbase’s policy chief Faryar Shirzad described her comments as “meaningful” but noted that they were not as bold as former President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance.
