SEC Delays Decision on BlackRock Ethereum ETF

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that they will once again postpone their decision on Nasdaq ICE’s request to allow options trading on BlackRock’s Ethereum exchange-traded fund.

The decision is now expected to be made on April 25th. BlackRock’s iShares ETH Trust was one of the first eight spot ETH ETFs to be approved by the SEC, and trading began in July of last year. In that same month, the Nasdaq ISE exchange filed for a rule change to permit options trading on the trust.

Options are contracts that allow the holder to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price within a set time period. They grant the holder the right to make these transactions, but do not oblige them to do so.

The application was officially published in the Federal Register on August 12th, giving the SEC 180 days to make a decision.
