Belgium Wants to Treat Cryptos as Securities
The authorities of Belgium plan to regulate digital currency transactions in line with securities law.
The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) issued on Wednesday a statement in which the regulator said that the Belgian legislation will be guided by the European Union’s AML regulatory framework.
According to the legislation, token issuers will only be able to operate in the domestic market if the requirement of the securities law is met.
It is important to mention that the final decision has not yet been made, as the authorities are discussing with experts and the crypto business options to legalize the industry.
However, the FSMA stressed that the authorities will not probably make any significant changes to the current legislation.
