Alexander Heptner Steps Down as BitMEX CEO

Alexander Heptner, CEO of crypto derivatives platform BitMEX, has stepped down.

According to the email sent by the company:

“Stefan Lutz has been named Interim CEO of BitMEX following Alexander Heptner’s immediate exit from our business. Stefan will continue as Chief Financial Officer, in office from May 2021.”

BitMEX, which was founded in 2014, was one of the first to offer crypto-based derivatives to the market. Over time, the company ran into regulatory problems, one of the consequences of which was a change in leadership.

The former head of the Stuttgart stock exchange Alexander Heptner has been the CEO of BitMEX since the end of 2020.
