Vitalik Buterin: Worldcoin Poses Privacy Risks
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum platform, has noted a privacy threat in Sam Altman’s Worldcoin project due to its retinal scanning feature.
He has pointed out potential risks of information leakage, despite Worldcoin’s use of ZK-SNARK and other encryption methods.
He has also brought attention to the limited availability of the technology used in retinal scans, as well as to the degree of centralization in the design of the system which can open backdoors to the creators.
Buterin has stressed that Worldcoin should continue its process of decentralization, while noting the user’s own responsibility for the safety of their mobile devices.
To generate an ideal system for identification, Buterin proposed a combination of several existing approaches (based on social graphs, hardware biometrics) in order to achieve a solution that is decentralized, scalable, and privacy-conscious.
Worldcoin has announced to official launch and release of the native WLD token, and has already been supported by various crypto exchanges.
