Fidelity Files Application for Ethereum ETF with SEC
In its ongoing pursuit of launching a spot Ethereum ETF, Fidelity Investments has taken another significant stride by filing a registration statement on March 27, despite the regulatory landscape’s uncertainty.
This move follows a prior filing made by Cboe, the designated exchange for the ETF, which submitted a form 19b-4 to the SEC on Fidelity’s behalf back in November 2023.
Fidelity’s actions, alongside similar efforts from other firms aiming to introduce spot ether ETFs, reflect a growing interest in integrating digital assets into traditional financial products. However, the challenge of obtaining regulatory approval remains substantial, underscoring the dynamic and uncertain nature of crypto regulation.
The recent filing of Form S-1 by Fidelity represents a crucial step in seeking SEC approval for the Fidelity Ethereum Fund to commence trading. Both the 19b-4 and S-1 forms must receive approval from the regulator before the fund can proceed with trading activities.
