Paraguay to Temporarily Ban Crypto Mining

Paraguay’s legislators have put forth a proposal to temporarily prohibit crypto mining and associated activities in the country, citing unauthorized crypto mines that are consuming power and disrupting the power supply.

The bill, presented on April 4, would prohibit the establishment of crypto mining facilities and the production, storage, and exchange of cryptocurrencies.

Its wide-ranging language appears to encompass the regulation of crypto staking, the creation of new crypto assets, and the storage of crypto assets in digital wallets.

The ban would be in effect for 180 days, or until a permanent law is passed and the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) can guarantee that enough energy is available for crypto miners without causing any disruptions to other users of the country’s power grid.
