Coinbase May Acquire Company Behind Mercado Bitcoin

US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring Mercado Bitcoin’s parent company 2TM.

Local publication Estadão has reported that the trading platform’s acquisition, whose negotiations have been taking place during this year, could be complete already in April.

Mercado Bitcoin is Latin America’s largest cryptocurrency brokerage company, whose parent company, 2TM, became a unicorn company lat year with a valuation of $2.2 billion.

2TM has also made some acquisitions. In particular, it has previously bought Portuguese crypto exchange CriptoLoja.

2TM now includes Meubank, MB Digital Assets, CriptoLoja, Bitrust, Blockchain Academy, MezaPro, Wuzu and Portal do Bitcoin.
