Cybercriminals No Longer Accept Bitcoin Payments
Digital attackers have stopped relying on Bitcoin and are focusing on new assets to make money.
Many new ransomware have started demanding Monero (XMR) as ransom, according to the report published by the experts of blockchain security company CipherTrace. According to them, attackers have started to move away from Bitcoin alone as a payment in favor of other altcoins.
The attack from Everest Ransomware on October 5, 2021 is given as an example. Then, the attackers posted on their website information about the hacking of the US government. Since the US government does not pay ransom demands, there is no information about which government department was hit.
However, according to CipherTrace, attackers are already trying to sell the stolen data for $500,000 in XMR. However, payments in Bitcoin are not accepted. The company’s cybersecurity experts have noted that the attackers refuse to provide any evidence of stolen data, which is unusual for such practices.
