eBay Releases its First NFT Collection

US online platform eBay has launched a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in partnership with NFT platform OneOf.

eBay Vice President Dawn Block has commented:

“NFT and blockchain technology are revolutionizing the collecting space and are increasingly seen as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts.”

The debut collection of Genesis includes 3D and animated images of iconic athletes who have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Canadian hockey player, four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky was chosen as the first NFT. He has said:

“Forty years ago I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was a significant moment in my life. I am honored to give a collectible experience to hockey fans who have followed my career for decades.”
