Minecraft Developers Say They Will Not Integrate NFTs into the Game
The team of developers behind Minecraft has said it “does not support or allow” the integration of blockchain technology and NFTs into the game.
According to them, collectible game items on the blockchain create “scarcity and exclusivity”, which is contrary to the principles of Minecraft.
The team has said that they strive to provide all players with the same content, regardless of the server used. They have added:
“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs detracts from the game and encourages profit making, which we believe is inconsistent with the long-term comfort and success of our gamers.”
They have also highlighted the risks of fraud and potential loss of funds associated with NFTs:
“In order to provide players with a secure and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated into Minecraft client and server applications. It also cannot be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, character items or other mods.”
