The FBI is Looking for Hackers Using Crypto to Extort Victims

Online ransomware has skyrocketed in the US over the past two years. Usually, attackers ask users to pay cryptocurrencies to regain access to their data.

US law enforcement agencies have started to look for criminals engaged in extortion on the Internet. They are focusing their attention on the search for hackers demanding Bitcoins or other virtual coins.

The FBI, the Cybersecurity Agency and the Interstate Clearinghouse have decided to join forces to protect citizens. The departments have issued a collective letter calling on US users to provide them with information about the activity of intruders.

Law enforcers predict a sharp increase in the number of attacks on educational institutions this year.
