Turkey’s Authorities Seize $40M in Crypto

Ankara’s prosecutor’s office has confiscated $40 million in digital assets as part of an operation to crack down on illegal sports betting.

According to local publication The Daily Sabah, the authorities have also detained 46 suspects in the case.

Law enforcers have said the participants in the scheme mediated the transfer of money received from illegal bets. The collected funds were sent to the group’s cryptocurrency accounts. The accounts were controlled by a businessman from Northern Cyprus, his wife and a casino manager.

The businessman was suspected of illegal financial transactions and money laundering. In February, he was shot dead near his own house. The murder launched an investigation into the illegal betting scheme organized by him.
