United Nations: Advanced Terrorists Are Using Cryptocurrencies

According to the UN coordinator for combating the financing, Svetlana Martynova, terrorist groups have turned to cryptocurrencies to fund activities.

She has said that as technology advances, attackers adapt to changing conditions.

She has said:

“If terrorists are excluded from the formal financial system and want to buy or invest in something anonymously, the most advanced ones are more likely to abuse cryptocurrencies.”

Despite this, cash and hawala remain the predominant methods of financing terrorism.
