North Korea-linked Hackers Stole About $1B in 2022

North Korean hackers stole a record amount of cryptocurrencies and targeted networks of foreign aerospace and defense companies last year, according to a report by the UN report.

The document shows that South Korea estimates that it is about $630 million, while cybersecurity experts estimate the damage at more than $1 billion.

At the same time, Chainalysis experts believe that over the past year, the attacks brought North Korea about $1.7 billion in digital assets.

The UN has added that hackers’ methods have become more sophisticated, making it harder to trace stolen assets.

Most of the attacks were carried out by cybercriminals controlled by North Korea’s Main Intelligence Bureau.
