UNICEF is Considering the Creation of a Prototype DAO

UNICEF, an agency of the United Nations that provides relief and humanitarian aid to children, is exploring the possibility of creating a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) prototype.

The purpose of this early-stage pilot, built on top of the Layer 2 solution Polygon, is to enable smoother communication between stakeholders of a digital public good (DPG) when discussing possible new features of the project.

Arun Maharajan, UNICEF’s blockchain lead, has stated in an interview at Paris Blockchain Week that the DAO would be a “closed DAO” for each DPG, so that the community around that DPG can come together and make decisions.

Additionally, UNICEF has tested the open-source voting tool Snapshot to potentially govern proposals, making it much like a typical decentralized organization.
