An Irish Farmer Wants to Mine BTC Using Cow Dung
Tom Campbell, an Irish farmer, has discovered a new way to mine bitcoin utilizing livestock waste. Campbell uses a method called anaerobic digestion. This type of decomposition breaks down manure to the point where methane is emitted which can then be used to create electricity.
Campbell uses this extra energy to power his farm and when there is surplus energy he uses it to mine cryptocurrency.
Campbell claims that this “methane method” could generate up to 700 kW of energy, which is equal to 12,000 households.
The Irish government believes that if 41% of farmers adopted Campbell’s green energy technology, it could be enough to provide electricity to the whole country, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector (which is 35%).
