Former Coinone Employee Pleads Guilty to Bribery Charges

Jung, formerly employed by South Korean crypto exchange Coinone, pled guilty to taking a bribe, according to lawyers from Yonhap.

In 2020, broker Hwang Mo allegedly gave Jung 2 billion won ($1.51 million) to list certain digital assets on the platform.

When authorities detained other Coinone workers in April 2023, the ‘Furier Coin’ cryptocurrency, which was traded only on Coinone, was among the coins, linked to a potential murder case in Seoul due to unsuccessful investments.

Jung’s accomplice was also found guilty and the defendants’ lawyer has asked to be allowed to further study the evidence before presenting a final conclusion.

The next court hearing is set for June 15. This situation follows the earlier arrest of Bithumb owner Kang Jong-hyun in February, by South Korean authorities on charges of embezzlement and stock price manipulation of other companies connected to him.
