Hong Kong Police Launches its Own Metaverse

The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of the Hong Kong Police launched the CyberDefender metaverse to provide the public with information about the opportunities and threats of the Web3 segment.

The first online event, attended by 120 participants, was hosted by the agency.

The attendees included Eric Jung, President of the Hong Kong Esports Association, and Aska Yeng, Chairman of the local association of media designers, who discussed entrepreneurial opportunities and career prospects in the field of non-fungible tokens.

CSTCB Chief Inspector Yip Cheuk-yu warned that classic fraud, hacking, and harassment schemes are common in metaverses.

Additionally, he highlighted the increased risk of cybercriminals targeting users’ devices, wallets, and smart contracts due to the decentralized nature of digital assets.
