Bitstamp is Registered by the UK’s FCA
Bitstamp, one of the oldest crypto exchanges, received approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK to operate on June 13, making it the latest addition to the FCA’s crypto register.
This came one day after brokerage/dealing company Interactive Brokers (UK) was also given the green light.
The FCA had not authorized any crypto asset companies since December when Hidden Road was registered, so these approvals were the first in six months for firms such as TP ICAP, Revolut, Gemini, Kraken, and eToro.
Operators in the UK must meet the FCA’s anti-money laundering requirements in order to receive approval.
The British government has been trying to promote London as a crypto center, but the regulatory endorsement process has been criticized for its slow progress and conservative attitude – only 42 crypto companies have been capable of being registered by the deadline of March 31, 2022.
