Sega Puts Off the Development of its Blockchain Game
Shuji Utsumi, Chief Operating Officer of Sega, has postponed plans for launching blockchain games due to doubts that they are “fun” enough.
The company will instead focus on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring characters from lesser-known franchises, such as Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter, to prevent possible “depreciation of content.”
Utsumi ‘looks into’ the possibility of blockchain technology being popular among gamers.
His comments come shortly after Animoca Brands CEO Robby Yung predicted the launch of AAA-class Web3 games by 2024.
Additionally, cloud service provider Alibaba Cloud announced the establishment of a “blockchain lab” in Japan to create web3 games.
