Google Play is Adding Support for GameFi Apps

Google Play, the app store for Android devices from Google, is enabling developers to host games and dApps that provide options to buy, sell, and earn digital assets.

The tech giant framed the initiative as a way of supporting the ingenuity and ambitions of developers.

With the support of Reddit, the project has been officially launched.

Joseph Mills, a Google Play product manager, stated that the added offerings, such as user-generated content in traditional gaming and the provision of NFT rewards, are designed to help teams build up their business.

Mills also noted that they are taking security measures to protect users since there are numerous cases of scams related to digital assets.

For these dApps to be accepted, developers need to indicate that they contain blockchain elements at the Play Console and abide by Google Play’s gambling policy.

Polygon-based blockchain game Axie Infinity previously became available in the App Store in multiple counties.

At the same time, Reddit has been offering NFT-like collectibles since July 2022 but only accepts traditional currencies for payment. Apparently, the platform was quite successful as the number of these avatars had already exceeded 10 million in May 2023.
