Optimism Gives Away $67M in Unclaimed Tokens
The team behind the Optimism second-level Ethereum network, also known as OP Mainnet, has distributed 48 million native OP tokens (equivalent to $67.2 million) to 88,000 eligible addresses that did not claim them during the first airdrop.
According to data from the Dune Analytics dashboard, which tracks the progress of the airdrop that began on June 1, 2022, approximately 166,000 tokens, amounting to just over 77% of the 215,000 OP reserved for the airdrop, were claimed by users.
However, around a quarter of eligible addresses did not claim their tokens, and the developers decided to directly send the unclaimed tokens to them.
Some users have expressed concerns about these unclaimed tokens potentially belonging to lost or abandoned wallets.
They believe that by sending the tokens directly to these addresses, the distribution may have removed some tokens from circulation.
However, the team explained that completing the airdrop would allow them to focus on other important work, such as smart contract development and future airdrops.
