Shiba Inu Plans to Offer .shib Domain to SHIB Holders
Developers of Shiba Inu are collaborating with D3, a major player in the internet domain industry, to introduce a new “.shib” internet domain and top-level domain.
This move aligns with their focus on identity-centered projects. In a Telegram chat, representatives from Shiba Inu shared that they are partnering with D3 to apply for the .shib top-level domain through ICANN, a global internet domain database, during the next application period.
ICANN thoroughly reviews and approves each internet domain application, granting its owners the rights to sell all domains under a specific suffix, such as “.xyz” or “.app.”
While crypto domains strive to take this concept further by linking a wallet’s owner to a domain name that can serve as proof of identity in blockchain applications, they are not currently compatible with regular browsing, emailing, or mobile devices.
By securing the .shib top-level domain, Shiba Inu aims to become one of the first Web3 networks to have its own unique DNS (Domain Name System) namespace.
