Ethereum Devs Unveil When Dencun Hard Fork Will Take Place in Testnets
The Dencun hard fork on test networks will take place in the first two months of 2024, as announced by the Ethereum blockchain team.
The deployment schedule, provided by project team leader Tim Beiko, is as follows: January 17 on the Goerli network, January 30 on the Sepolia network, and February 7 on the Holesky network.
However, Beiko mentioned that the schedule may change if any major issues arise. The team plans to publish a blog post about the fork during the week of January 8th to give users at least a week to update.
Once the hard fork is successfully launched on the testnets, it will be implemented on the mainnet around the end of February.
Originally planned for the last quarter of 2023, the Dencun hard fork was postponed to 2024 due to issues with consensus. The purpose of the Dencun update is to implement EIP-4844, which includes the Proto-Danksharding option to improve the scalability of the network.
This will be achieved through the creation of a new type of transaction for large amounts of binary data, which is expected to reduce fees for Layer 2 solutions based on Rollups technology.
