X Drops Support for NFT Profile Avatars
Social platform X quietly removed the option to set NFTs (non-fungible tokens) as profile pictures.
This feature was introduced under Twitter’s previous leadership back in January 2022 and was only available to subscribers of the premium service Twitter Blue.
NFTs issued on Ethereum could be used as PFP (profile pictures) and had a hexagonal shape instead of the usual round one.
Clicking on the NFT avatar would reveal information about the token, such as collection, contract address, TokenID, and the application it was issued on.
However, the platform has now removed all references to this feature from the X Premium support page, which is currently known as Twitter Blue.
The decision to remove support for NFT profile pictures has been met with criticism from industry experts, who see it as a step backward.
