Saga Web3 Smartphone Preorders Reach 100,000
On February 12, the number of pre-orders for Solana Mobile’s new smartphone, the Saga Chapter 2, reached 100,000 units.
The company had set this goal as a condition for developing a second device. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko stated that the $45 million earned from pre-orders is proof that the sales economics for the new smartphone are more sustainable than those of their first model.
The developers aim to launch the Saga Chapter 2 within a month and expect to deliver the devices to customers in early 2025.
Yakovenko noted that minimal costs are involved in launching a new product line. Solana Mobile does not intend to compete with flagship devices from Apple or Google in terms of technical specifications, but rather focus on catering to the needs of cryptocurrency owners.
The company aims to reach a critical mass of 100,000 users to convince application developers to create games within the Solana ecosystem.
Their app store will also have an advantage of not charging the 20-30% commission that Apple and Google do.
