SEC Opens Public Consultation for Bitwise and Grayscale Bitcoin ETF Options
The SEC is currently asking for feedback on a proposal to allow the trading of options for Bitcoin ETFs. This proposal would apply to the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, and any other trust that holds Bitcoin.
The options would be traded on the New York Stock Exchange, and would follow the same regulations as other ETF options, including criteria for listing, expiration dates, strike prices, and margin requirements.
Another large asset manager, BlackRock, has also requested a similar policy change in collaboration with the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
Some analysts, including Bloomberg’s James Seyffart, believe the SEC could make a decision on this proposal as early as September 2024.
