Bitfinex CTO Says There Was Not a Data Breach

According to Bitfinex‘s Chief Technology Officer Paolo Ardoino, claims spread on social media that the exchange was targeted in a large-scale data breach by the hacking group FSOCIETY on April 26 are not true.

Ardoino stated that they have conducted a thorough analysis of their systems and found no signs of a breach, with only a small percentage of email addresses supposedly stolen matching those of actual users.

The supposed hacking group, which is modeled after the fictional one from the TV show “Mr. Robot”, also claimed to have hacked other victims, including Rutgers University, consulting firm SBC Global, and the crypto exchange “Coinmoma” (presumably meant to be Coinmama).

However, none of these companies have confirmed any significant data breaches or paying a ransom to the group, and Ardoino has stated that Bitfinex has not been contacted directly by the hackers.
