Paraguay Authorities Seize 2,738 Crypto Miners
A property with 2,738 units dedicated to crypto mining in Salto del Guairá, Paraguay, was recently confiscated by the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) after an investigation revealed unauthorized power connection in the area.
There is a proposal before the senate to prohibit all crypto-related activities until comprehensive laws are established and the national power supplier provides assurance.
Using advanced technology and examination of power distribution, ANDE was able to identify the electricity theft, which is estimated to be valued at 1.1 billion guarani ($146,000) every month.
The property also had five transformers that were seized. Those responsible for the illegal operation may face up to four criminal charges. In May, Paraguay conducted two other raids against unlawful crypto farming activities, including one in Salta del Guairá with smaller outcomes.
These government interventions involved cooperation between multiple agencies, including the National Police. Paraguay was previously a favorable destination for crypto mining due to the ample supply of hydropower from the Itaipu Dam on the Paraná River.
