Robinhood to Offer Bitcoin Futures in Europe and US
Robinhood Markets Inc. is expanding its cryptocurrency offerings and geographical reach.
The company has recently launched its services in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, and is also exploring opportunities to introduce cryptocurrency futures trading in both the United States and Europe.
The expansion into Hawaii was made possible by a regulatory change by the state’s Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, which removed the requirement for cryptocurrency services to obtain a money transmitter license.
This has allowed Robinhood to enter a market known for its strict financial regulations. However, Robinhood Crypto services are still not available in New York, as the process of obtaining licenses in different regions of the United States has been a lengthy one, spanning over the past six years.
In addition, sources familiar with the matter have revealed to Bloomberg that Robinhood is considering offering cryptocurrency futures in the US and Europe in the near future.
This move could be facilitated by the licenses obtained through the company’s recent acquisition of Bitstamp Ltd. for $200 million, which is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2025.
