Nasdaq Drops Filing to Trade Spot Ethereum Options

Nasdaq ISE, LLC has submitted two notices on Thursday to retract their proposals to list and trade options on exchange-traded funds for both Bitcoin and Ethereum.

According to documents on the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s website, the exchange formally withdrew both proposals on Tuesday. The proposal for the Bitcoin ETF was open for comments on August 12, 2024, but did not receive any.

The exchange then withdrew the proposal on August 13, 2024. Other exchanges, such as MIAX, MIAX Pearl, BOX Exchange, and Cboe, have also withdrawn similar proposals in the past week, citing uncertainties with the SEC’s approval process.

Cboe, however, later re-filed their application to list options on spot Bitcoin ETFs, which could indicate that the SEC is potentially engaging in the process. As of now, the SEC has not approved trading for options products for spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.
