SEC Launches Unit to Fight Crypto Fraud
The US SEC is establishing a new division dedicated to safeguarding investors from malicious activities in the realms of cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence.
Announced on Thursday, this new division is named the Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU), as per an official statement. CETU will succeed the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, initially formed in 2022 during the previous Biden administration.
Laura D’Allaird, a long-standing member of the SEC with various enforcement roles, will head CETU. She previously served as co-chief of the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit and was counsel to former Democratic Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga, according to her LinkedIn profile.
